At Kleurmeester we like to soak with honest and natural materials. Our cotton fabrics are made from environmentally friendly natural fibers and dyes. They are "raw", meaning they are delivered as they fall off the loom, with no additional treatment to take out any imperfections. The environment is also taken into account during the production of our outdoor fabrics. The outdoor fabrics are Oeko-Tex standard 100 certified and are recyclable. (More about that in another blog).
Supplier choice based on production with respect for the environment.
When compiling our wooden garden furniture collection, we also choose suppliers who produce quality products with respect for the environment and conditions. That is why we select our suppliers based on the use of FSC or PEFC certified wood.
We work with suppliers who are either FSC and/or PEFC certified . The FSC and PEFC quality marks are the two best-known quality marks in the field of wood.
Wood that has an FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) or PEFC ( Programme for the Endorsement Forest Certification) quality mark guarantees that it comes from a sustainably managed forest. In these forests, selective felling takes place and for every tree cut down, a new one is planted. This means the process is not harmful to the environment. Of all the forest in the world, approximately 400 million hectares are now certified. That is less than 10% of the world's forest area. So a lot of room for improvement.
The two quality marks FSC and PEFC for sustainable forest management compared:
- Both quality marks take into account economic, social and environmental aspects.
- The objective of both organizations is the same. Sustainable forest management and increasing the area of certified forest worldwide. The path to get there varies. This applies in particular to the way in which certification is arranged.
- FSC works from forest to end user (top-down) and PEFC from end user to forest (bottom-up).
- The logo may appear on the certified product for both quality marks, if at least 70% of the material comes from certified forests.
